Amongst the Wolves

Ebany is someone that you want to instantly be friends with. She is constantly smiling and seems to float through life effervescently. I sat down with Ebany after meeting her from a mutual friend one day. We quickly bonded over our same passion for veganism and self love. When I learned that she had a passion for the environment and that she had previously lived out of a shipping container, I instantly asked her to be apart of my project. Ebany and I sat down over a vegan picnic at the beach where we talked about these passions.

“One of my passions is veganism. One of the main reasons I went vegan was because of the animals, for cruelty and ethics and the other reason was because of the environment because animal agriculture has such a huge impact on the environment. Veganism helps you have more compassion and you feel a lot more connected to mother nature. I think that it made me feel closer to nature because I wasn’t putting in this negative energy into my body and expelling it back out into the earth. Everyday, it makes me feel more connected to nature because I am eating plants from the earth and I’m not eating food that has gone through torture. My other passion is self love and empowering women. I’m reading this book called: Women Who Run with Wolves and its about getting to your natural instinctual women and about how much power we have. Over the years, society has dimmed that out and made us forget. I think that its a really interesting book about connecting women to nature and how we do have a connection with earth, regardless of your gender even. We have lost so much connection through society. So connecting women to themselves and connection them to nature go hand in hand.

I had asked Ebany a more personal question about where she felt most grounded, to that Ebany responded:

"Definitely by the ocean. I think as soon as I get to the beach, I feel like everything is relieved. You come to your center a bit more and you feel like the power of the ocean and how big it is makes all your worries look so small. Obviously, being in the ocean is just like heaven. Its ultimate bliss. Floating just makes all the stress go and you feel at one with the ocean. The countryside during trips in the winter, in an open field with greenery and mud is one of my favorites."

I next prompted Ebany to share why others aren’t doing their part to contribute to the well-being of the earth. Ebany responds,

“I think a lot of the reason why people don’t treat the earth right is because we forget about it and we don’t realize the impact we do have. If you’re really inspired by nature, you cant forget about that impact. One thing I think about is how humans just think that they are at the top of this pyramid over nature and how it has been instilled in humans brains that we are more intelligent so we have special rights. I think its so important to remember that we are all apart of the same ecosystem of earth. Everything is energy so everything is one.
